Am 26. November 2008 wurde das Hotel Taj Mahal in der indischen Metropole Mumbai Opfer eines Terroranschlags, bei dem militante Maskierte aus Pakistan das Gebäude in ihre Gewalt brachten. Die Abriegelung des Edelhotels dauerte 68 Stunden an, hunderte Gäste wurden als Geiseln gehalten, Schüsse fielen und ein Feuer brach aus. Nachdem der Rauch sich wieder verzogen hatte, gab es unzählige Verletzte. Mehr als 160 Menschen starben.
